HUST-UTS Collaborative PhD Program

Summary

UTS and HUST are collaborating to offer a joint PhD training program. Students enrolled in this program will conduct research under the guidance of leading researchers from both universities and experience academic environments at HUST and UTS. Participants will be awarded full scholarships during their studies and research at both institutions.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree graduates with distinction or higher (CPA of 3.2 or above).
  • Proficiency in English (equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or above).
  • Passion for scientific research.
  • Prior experience in research projects and published papers is an advantage (but not mandatory).

 

Scholarship Programs

1. 89-Topup Scholarship

  • Designed for faculty members from universities.
  • Applicants will receive guidance on applying for the 89 Scholarship from the Ministry of Education, selecting UTS as their host university.
  • Upon receiving the 89 Scholarship, applicants will also receive a UTS top-up scholarship worth AUD 38,000/year and an additional AUD 5,000 start-up grant.

2. JRC Scholarship

  • For those ineligible for the Ministry of Education’s 89 Scholarship.
  • Recipients of the JRC Scholarship will study 1-2 years at HUST and at least 1 year at UTS.
  • While at HUST, they will receive funding from AI4LIFE Institute’s budget.
  • During their time at UTS, they will receive a full scholarship funded by UTS.

 

Selection Process

Round 1: Application Submission

  • Copy of Bachelor’s/Master’s degree (for Master’s graduates).
  • Academic transcripts from the most recent degree level.
  • Recommendation letters (at least two).
  • Acceptance letters from supervisors (one from HUST, one from UTS) (optional).

Round 2: Interview

  • Presentation of research content and proposal.
  • Q&A with the selection committee.

  2. Supervisors at HUST
    • All faculty members at HUST (meeting HUST’s requirements for PhD supervision) are eligible to supervise candidates under this program.

    • Applicants may also refer to faculty members currently conducting research at AI4LIFE (here).
