In August 2025, the Institute for Institute for AI Innovation and Societal Impact (AI4LIFE)- Hanoi University of Science and Technology has sent 4 students to participated in a 3-week internship program at the West Japan Railway Corporation (JR West) with the companionship of Data Impact Company. These are the first Vietnamese students to have the opportunity to intern at JR West – one of the world’s leading railway corporations.
The program was launched in February 2025 with many preparatory activities: soft skills training, learning Japanese, learning basic knowledge about the railway industry and participating in joint research. Under the direct guidance of JR West experts, Data Impact (JR’s partner in Vietnam) and AI4LIFE’s team of AI experts, students were able to access and test AI application solutions in the field of smart railways.
Research topics include:
- AI in smart railway data retrieval
- AI in multilingual automatic speech translation in railway technology
- AI in small language models for the railway industry
Through the program, students not only complete their research but also visit the site, learn about the actual operating process and access advanced technologies of JR West. This is a valuable opportunity for students to accumulate professional knowledge, practice practical skills and expand international experience.
